Why Your Posture in Golf Matters More Than You Think
When it comes to golf, posture is a big deal.
Before you ever take the club back, your body is already telling the ball how far—and how well—you’ll hit it.
At Apex Performance Institute, I look at posture first. It’s one of the biggest keys to your swing. And if it’s off, everything else will be too.
What is “Golf Posture”?
Golf posture is how your body looks when you set up to the ball.
The best golf posture has:
• A flat or neutral spine
• Hips pushed back
• Knees soft
• Chest tall
• Head balanced (not hunched)
But that’s not always what we see…
3 Common Posture Problems in Golf
1. C-Posture
This looks like a slouch.
Your shoulders are rounded, your back is curved, and your chest is down.
👉 This limits rotation and makes it hard to create power.
2. S-Posture
This is too much curve.
Your lower back arches too far and your pelvis tilts forward.
👉 This puts pressure on your back and makes timing the swing harder.
3. Reverse Spine Angle
This happens in your backswing.
Your upper body leans toward the target too early.
👉 This can cause low back pain, poor contact, and even injury.
Why Posture Matters
Bad posture messes up your swing—even if your technique is solid.
It leads to:
• Less rotation
• Lower swing speed
• More injuries
• Swing compensations
Good posture helps you:
• Rotate better
• Swing faster
• Stay healthy
• Be more consistent
What Can You Do?
If you’ve been struggling with consistency, distance, or pain—it might not be your swing.
It could be your posture.
